Sarah Arnold | Head of School
Sarah Arnold is a life-long educator. She has an undergraduate degree from Harvard in French Language and Civilization and a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University. Sarah has taught in the elementary grades in Massachusetts and Nevada. She was drawn to Waldorf education through seeking a developmentally aware early childhood program for her own children. This yearning led to her participation in the founding of Evergreen Garden Playschool (EGP). Sarah completed her Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training at Sunbridge, becoming a teacher and later the Director of EGP.
Through a desire to bridge the worlds of Waldorf education and public education, Sarah became active in the work of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America, eventually joining the Board and becoming the Public Policy and Outreach Coordinator for WECAN. This same desire led to Sarah enrolling at Boston University in a Doctorate of Education program in Language and Literacy. Sarah is working on finishing her dissertation, which focuses on storytelling and the story life of early childhood classrooms and is a current board member for the Alliance for Public Waldorf.
Sarah’s work with WECAN has been inwardly focused on developing communication between the three Waldorf Associations: WECAN, AWSNA, and the Alliance for Public Waldorf. In an outward direction, her work has created opportunities for Waldorf education to be in dialogue with other pedagogical approaches, researchers, educational associations, and educational policy bodies.
Sarah is thrilled to be the Northeast Woodland Chartered Public Schools first Head of School. This position braids together all the strands of Sarah’s professional life in a location which Sarah (and her family) love. Sarah is an avid hiker, cross-country skier, downhill skier, and rower.
